This fabulous Suzani adds a wonderful exotic touch to a room when used as a throw on a bed or sofa. It would also look fabulous on a large headboard or ottoman.
The vintage Suzani has a look typical of mid-twentieth-century Tajik embroideries - bold, flat patterns in a limited palette on black. The distinctive white border pattern is said to symbolise a snake, which was thought to protect against evil spirits. It is bordered by an intricately machine-embroidered black cotton trim. These Tajik Suzanis were usually used as wall hangings.
Condition: Very good condition, unlined. Due to the vintage nature you should to expect to see evidence of wear. There will be some imperfections, which are sometimes deliberate parts of the design - all of which add to the character of the piece.
