- Our Story
60 x 35 cm
To create our beautiful Blue Pomegranate Silk Ikat cushions, we use hand-woven and hand-dyed fabrics known as Ikat materials. In Uzbekistan the Ikat technique is called Abrband, which is an ancient way of creating designs in fabric by resist-dyeing the threads before the fabric is woven. This technique produces a distinctive vibrancy of colour and design.
There is a rich history of pomegranate iconography in Uzbekistan. They are known as a symbol of strong union, friendship and fertility. In the East of Uzbekistan, being blessed with a crown atop their fruit, they have been known since antiquity as the king of fruit.
Each item is made with a tremendous amount of care and with our own heritage rooted in Uzbekistan, we work directly with artisans that we know and who are among the most talented in their field.
Due to the hand-made techniques used in the creation of our fabrics, there may be slight variations in patterns and colours in the material, which all adds to the unique nature of our cushions.
